Wonderful Worship at Worth Abbey!

It really was a privilege to go to Worth Abbey this Thursday to attend the Good Shepherd Celebration. Each Catholic school in the diocese was represented; I was joined by some members of our Faith Council and Mrs Kay-Russell.

In response to the Pope’s invitation for a year of prayer, the focus was on the prayer that Jesus taught us. Schools were invited to reproduce an artistic representation of the Our Father and bring it to Worth. Mr Kay-Russell coordinated the construction of an enormous cross which bore extracts from the prayer written in different languages by all the children at St Cuthbert Mayne – this was presented at the altar during the liturgy. Bishop Richard drew our attention to the line “thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven” - we ask Jesus to fulfil his promise that he will return on the Last Day. We also ask God to bring his kingdom here and now so we might reflect it in our own lives. This cultivates our desire to bring a foretaste of heaven to everyone we encounter.
