Well there’s certainly no shortage of content with which to fill the column inches of this week’s newsletter, we have been – BUSY! Our week began with a wonderful concert from our KS2 Choir. Mr Ellson led our young singers through a repertoire of folk tunes and hymns, as well as some contemporary numbers. There are so many benefits to singing – it exercises the brain and can be particularly beneficial to improving breathing, posture and muscle tension. Not to mention positive impact on happiness and wellbeing. Mr Ellson is the Choral Director for the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton and we have thoroughly enjoyed the enthusiasm and energy that he has brought to our KS2 Music curriculum this year. This initiative has been funded by the National Schools Singing Programme this academic year and while they will continue to subsidise it next year, I am delighted to report that the Governors will pick up the rest of the bill. So please do consider signing your child up for the School Choir next September – it runs on a Monday straight after school and is completely free of charge.
Once again eyes were on the weather forecast on Monday evening ahead of our District Sports competition at Charterhouse. The event went ahead despite the persistent drizzle and our children really did themselves proud in the miserable conditions. Who knows whether the odd raindrop on the scorers’ sheets might have impacted the result, but what we do know is that there was very little separating the top four schools. Well done to all involved, and thank you to parents who came to support.
Reception enjoyed a wonderful day at Sayers Croft this week, all decked out in wellies and waterproofs. Meanwhile, it was third time lucky for our KS2 Sports Day – we finally managed to get over to Glebelands and enjoyed perfect conditions for the children to pit themselves against one another on the track and field.
On Tuesday the Year 6 children who have been completing their Faith in Action Award led a whole school assembly explaining to the children about what they have been doing as part of the award. I know that they have been working really hard towards this, and it was wonderful to hear them speak to the rest of the school about their experience.
Thank you to the Friends once again for organising a Mufti Day to raise money for the Bee-lieve Foundation and running discos this afternoon. Mrs Ritchie has done a tremendous job with the team over the last two years – as a school community we are incredibly grateful for the time and effort that goes into organising fun events that raise valuable funds for our school. The Friends are very keen to recruit new volunteers for the next academic year. Parents can join the core team or put their hands up for 1-2 specific things that will best suit their schedule. Please contact The Friends by 18 July if you are able to volunteer - thefriendsscm@gmail.com. See further details in this newsletter about what is involved.
Next week there is lots for the children to look forward to:
I daresay there might be a few sleepy heads on Monday morning – watching the first half and then nodding off to the radio commentary has worked well for us in the past. Admittedly, that might be a hard sell this Sunday evening!
