Dear Parents and Carers,
I can hardly believe that this time next week, we will be halfway through this academic year!
So much has been happening in school this week. On Tuesday, Reception enjoyed a visit to Cranleigh Fire Station. They were full of excitement on their return, talking about going in the fire engine and spraying water with the hose! This was part of the children's learning about the people who help us. Thank you to the parents that accompanied the children on the visit.

The Mental Health Ambassadors led a great assembly for the whole school on Wednesday as part of Children’s Mental Health Week.
We hope you are enjoying the longer weekend with your children.
God bless,
Mrs. Amy O’Donovan
Head of School
Collective Worship
Last Sunday was the feast of The Presentation of the Lord and Candlemas. In Collective Worship, we thought about how Simeon knew that Jesus was the son of God. Simeon was so filled with the Holy Spirit that he recognised the presence in Jesus. Simeon gives us a great role of how to welcome others and see the presence of Jesus in the people that we meet.

Children’s Mental Health Week

This week, we celebrated Children’s Mental Health Week, with our children taking part in a variety of activities in class and a special assembly led by our Wellbeing Ambassadors from Year 6, supported by some enthusiastic helpers from Year 3.
The theme this year was "Know Yourself, Grow Yourself."
During the assembly, the children explored the importance of recognizing and understanding their emotions, just as plants need the right care to grow big and strong. To reinforce this message, each class received a plant to nurture —
Parents Evening
We look forward to welcoming you into school for Parents’ Evening on Tuesday 11th and Thursday 13th February between 3.30 - 6pm. Do book an appointment if you haven’t already.
Wake Up Wednesday
This week’s Wake Up Wednesday links well with Safer Internet Day which we will be focusing on next week. While misinformation and ‘fake news’ are well-known concerns online, it's also the case that scammers and other cyber-criminals can try to utilise this phony material to manipulate, frighten or otherwise persuade their victims into cooperating.
With constantly evolving scams and such a high volume of misinformation online, it's vital that parents and educators know how to safeguard the children in their care against these kinds of tactics. The guide below breaks down the most prominent ways in which scammers attempt to use ‘fake news’ to their advantage, as well as how to protect youngsters from being manipulated by such techniques.

Volunteers

We would love to have some parents/grandparents help with reading in school. To volunteer, you will need to be committed to coming into school regularly, undertake a DBS and safeguarding training. Please contact the office if you can offer support with this.
Parking

During the holidays, PCSO Aaron Baker emailed me as he had been in contact with Surrey County Council regarding the parking issues around our school. Please can we all work hard and work together to ensure the roads around our school are as safe as possible for the children as they arrive at and leave school. It is more important than ever to focus on this at the moment with the road works at the end of St Nicolas Avenue.
Points to remember please:
I know that a parent talked to the PCSO about having a walking bus. If anyone would like to volunteer to organise that - please get in contact with Mrs O’Donovan via the School Office. She would love to hear from you!
