Dear Parents and Carers,
Well, I got it wrong about the weather – didn't I! Although at least the rain has been interspersed by some sunshine this week.
Yesterday, we celebrated World Mental Health Day and brightened up Cranleigh by wearing yellow. A big thank you to Mrs. Woodhams and the Wellbeing Ambassadors for your hard work in arranging the mufti day and leading an assembly about Mental Health and Wellbeing. We managed to raise £221 for Young Minds who do amazing work to support young people who are struggling with their mental health. Through this event, the children really put Catholic Social Teaching into action.
At pick-ups this week, you may have noticed PCSO (Police Community Support Officer) Aaron Baker supporting the school to ensure that our community is safe on St. Nicholas Avenue and abiding by the Highway Code. We are very grateful to him for his work and it does seem to be having a positive impact when he is there. We need to make sure that people abide by the rules when he isn't there too! If the circumstances arise, he will issue fines and penalty points which no one wants. Let’s look after one another and be considerate for others and avoid the need for fines or points being given. Adam has committed to helping the school in other ways with Bikeability, an assembly during Road Safety Week and asking his colleagues from the Youth Engagement Team to speak to KS2 about Online Safety – so watch this space.
Whilst our cook, Nadia is receiving training off site, we have had other staff from Twelve 15 help out in school. I was delighted to hear that on Wednesday the two visitors fed back that our children were the politest children they have ever met! What a compliment – I am the proudest headteacher!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Mrs. Amy O’Donovan
Head of School
Collective Worship
The children loved exploring last Sunday’s Gospel in Collective Worships this week as it focused on Jesus making sure his disciples did not prevent children approaching him. We thought about Jesus’ invitation to come to him and how Jesus always focused on the people that others considered to be the least important. How do we do this in our own lives?
Friends
Thank you to those of you who have offered your help to the Friends this year. We are still looking for volunteers for Christmas events and raffles. Please contact Siobhan Ritchie if you can offer any of your time. Thank you!
Coats
Please ensure that your children have a coat with them every day in school, this could be a rain jacket that they keep in their bag. Even when there is light rain, we always try to take the children out for playtimes, so they have the opportunity to run around and get fresh air!
Year 6 Parents
Although your children are only a few weeks into year 6, it is time to apply for secondary school places! The Surrey deadline for Secondary School applications is the 31st October. Do make sure you have applied on time. Click here to go to Surrey’s Secondary School application page.
Wake Up Wednesday
As we celebrated World Mental Health Day in school this week, I thought it would be appropriate to share the Wake Up Wednesday that gives tips for parents on supporting children’s mental health.
Reception 2025
We have just settled our Reception intake, but it is already time to think about 2025’s new intake! If your child is due to start school in September 2025 and you would like to find out more about St. Cuthbert Mayne Catholic Primary School, we will be running tours of the school so that you can see us in action and have the opportunity to meet with Mrs. O’Donovan, Head of School on the following dates:
Numbers will be limited to 6 families each week to ensure that the children in classrooms are not overwhelmed. To book a place, please complete this form.
Toddler Group
Anyone with pre-school children is very welcome to join the toddler group in the Parish Room after school drop off on Friday mornings from 8.45 - 10.30am.
Donations
We are looking to refresh our EYFS resources, do you have any pots, pans or utensils we could use in our mud kitchen or home corner? Have you got any dressing up clothes that your children have grown out of? We would love any good quality construction materials e.g. Lego, Duplo. Also, we wondered if anyone has any old car tyres or offcuts of decking boards (1m in length or longer)? Please bring any donations to the school office. Thank you in advance!
